It's understandable that we would want to experience a world that's different than our own. Our world often leaves a lot to be desired. It can be boring, upsetting, and all too human. We wonder what it would be like to be a different creature that wasn't bound by our particular gravity and that didn't have to be tethered to this planet. What would it be like? We wonder. Would we be free of all the hang-ups of our species? Would we have a greater perspective on our problems as a human race? Maybe. Sci-fi can help us figure that out. 

Science fiction shows us that there are other potentialities. It shows us different planets, different alien species, and different ways of solving our problems. Sure, they come from the minds of humans, but imaginative ones. Ones who can see beyond our shape and form and imagine something totally new.
